1844 (10 Aug.) entire letter "From Private John Dane No. 990 — 38th. Regt." to Canterbury, marked "1" in red ink and showing fine 2nd. Type curved "gibraltar/paid" handstamp and London tombstone Paid d.s. in red, arrival c.d.s. on reverse. A fine letter from Private Dane who is in hospital feigning sickness, and which gives details of garrison routine and reference to the Franco-Moroccan War, which ended shortly after the letter was written.
