(x) Gibraltar
Early Letters and Handstamps
1807 (24 July) entire letter to Somerset, rated "3/-" and showing a good strike of the curved-framed "gibraltar" in a mixture of red and black inks; most unusual. Photo

Note: About July 1807 the Packet Agent in Gibraltar, Mr. Hardcastle, acquired a red ink pad and switched to this from the black pad for stamping all mail, whether paid or unpaid. Evidently the stamp was not changed and the existing instrument was used uncleaned, with distinct traces of red showing
