Baltimore Exchange Company, 1 share, 18[17], #252, signed by William Patterson as President, embossed company stamp with Hermes. This company was incorporated in 1816 for construction of the Baltimore Exchange, a building which "in size and magnificence has no rival in America". William Patterson (1752-1835) had many dealings in shipping, banking and the water supply sector. He was a founder of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and President of the Baltimore Exchange Company. Patterson's daughter Elizabeth married Jérôme Bonaparte, brother of Napoléon Bonaparte. Very early American item. VF.
