Montgomery and West Point Rail Road Company, 8% Bond $500, Montgomery 1867, #392, black with blue underprint, imprinted revenue stamp. The Montgomery and West Point Railroad was founded in 1832 and built the railway from Montgomery (Ala.) to West Point (GA). It played a crucial role during the American Civil War as a supply and transportation route for the Confederate Army, and, as such, was the target of a large raid by Union cavalry in the summer of 1864, called Wilson's Raid. In 1870, the M&WP merged into the Western Railway of Alabama. Perforation cancelled, repairs. VF.
