White Star Line Ltd., £1 preference shares, 19[27], #1947, facsimile signature of Lord Kylsant as director, scrollwork at left with company flag, red, embossed seal. The White Star Line, owners of the ill fated Titanic, was acquired by Lord Kylsant (Owen Phillips) and his Royal Mail Steam Packet Company in 1927. He also became Chairman of Harland & Wolff. The whole group collapsed after revelations that dividens were being paid despite trading losses and Kylant was charged with making false statements regaring the company accounts. He was sentenced to 12 months and actually served 10 months in Wormwood Scrubs Prison, being released in 1932. F-VF.
