Royal Association of Contributors to the National Monument of Scotland, certificate for [2] shares, 18[23], #362-363, signed by Sir Thomas Dick Lauder, 7th Baronet, 1784-1848, as chairman of the committee, coat of arms in centre, black. In 1822 a proposal was made to build a memorial in the style of the Parthenon in Athens, mainly to commemorate all the men fallen during the Napoleonic Wars. The comany was formed by Act of Parliament and proceeded to attract funds. Foundation stone laid during the visit of Geoge IV. By 1826 work was started but only £16000 of the £42000 needed was raised and the building was left unfinished in 1829. Despite numerous scheme to finish the project, some as late as 2004, it remains as built. F-VF and rare.
