Exchequer Order of Payment, July 1715. Manuscript order to pay £250 to John Earl of Stair(s) sic, 'one of the gentlemen of the bedchamber to his majesty' for one quarter of a year', signed by Richard Onslow, 1st Baron Onslow, Sir Roger Mostyn, 3rd Baronet, as two of the tellers of the Exchequer, and George Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax as auditor of the Exchequer. In particularly complete state with just splits at folds on full folio sheet.
Richard Onslow (1654-1717), 1st Baron Onslow (created 1716). Speaker of the House of Commons 1708-1710 and Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1714-1715.
John Dalrymple, 2nd Earl of Stair (1673-1747), a Scottish soldier and diplomat, Scottish representative to the newly formed Parliament of Great Britain following the Union of 1707, by 1710 was promoted Lieutenant General under Marlborough, Ambassador to France, 1714-1720.
