Reserve Bank of Rhodesia, £1, 15 June 1966, serial number K/19 159064, red on multicolour underprint, portrait Queen Elizabeth II at right, bank title top centre with arms below, reverse, Victoria Falls. This note and the following three lots represents ALL the four date varieties for this whole series in uncirculated condition. All of these notes circulated for a scant four years before they were replaced by the "dollar series" in 1970. These notes were printed in total secrecy in the basement of the old Reserve Bank of Rhodesia from second hand printing presses acquired from Germany. This was due to an embargo placed by Britain on the newly declared independent Republic of Rhodesia. All previous attempts of importing new banknotes by the new Republic had failed
