In August 1950, the 1st Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders was, alongside the Middlesex Regiment, the first British unit to arrive in Korea. It was constantly in action, fighting up to the Yalu River and back, prior to being re-embarked in the following year. By that time the Battalion had sustained casualties of 44 killed and 181 wounded, not a few of them in the gallant defence of Hill 282, where Major Muir won a posthumous V.C.
