Auction: 162 - The Endre Krajcsovics Collection of Hungary
Lot: 546
#7, 7b, 1871 2kr Orange engraved, single and horiz. bisect, used to make a 3kr local rate for an 1873 folded cover, with stamps tied together by "Kuban 30/9" c.d.s., this was a legal letter that the postmaster marked in blue as refused by the recipient, stamps are fresh with strong color, both stamps centered to top, file folds to cover and some separation along the folds of the cover, a fine use of a bisect; normally it is desirable to have the cancel go across the bisected side, but in this case the correspondence of the (lawyer) Dimitrovic archives (letter 28 in archive) with these bisects is well documented ("Stamp Collecting", 29 Nov. 1979) and on the enclosed certificate is a photo of another cover of this correspondence that has the bottom half bisect of the stamp that is on this cover well establishing this rare usage which is listed in Scott but not priced; 1989 Ferenc Orban certificate (Phil. Hung. #8, 8 var.).
