#2, 10c Black, position 84L, large to enormous margins all around, razor-sharp impression, tied to 1849 folder letter to Rochester, New York by red St. Johnsbury, Vermont "Scarab" fancy cancel with matching red "St. Johnsbury/Vt./Apr 17" c.d.s. at left, extremely fine and rare, the most famous of the few 1847 issue fancy cancels; 1999 PF certificate noting "toning removed from the bottom right corner of the folded letter" which in our opinion barely detracts.
