Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Pandya (c.2nd century BC - 1st century AD), AE Unit, 8.25g, elephant standing left with beads below head, above head a three-branched tree in railing, a swastika on a stand and a three-arched hill, rev. appears to be double-struck, but a three-arched hill, damaru, nandipada symbol, tree, circle, and three triple-bead arrangements clearly visible, double-struck using rusty dies, however good extremely fine, unusually good for type
Elephant and Svastika coins have been found at the Buddhist site of Abhayagiri Dagoba in the ancient city of Anuradhapura. They are very rarely offered at auction and difficult to acquire, especially in this condition.
