Spanish Guinea
1862 entire letter headed "L. Elopi Sept 10th 1862" (Little Elobey) from Ibia G. Ikenge addressed to "Rev.R.H. Nassau M.D., Corisco", apologising for not attending his marriage; no postal markings. Very rare internal mail. Photo

Note: Rev. Robert Hamill Nassau was an American medical missionary, a native of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, who spent some forty years in West Africa in charge of the Presbyterian Mission there. Probably, from the sound of his note, Ibia G. Inkenga was a native man who ran the Mission Substation at Little Elobey. The marriage referred to in the letter was that od Dr. Nassau, who married Miss Mary Latta.
