1825 (4 Feb.) receipt signed the by explorer Alexander Gordon Laing addressed to Adam Gordon at the Colonial Office. The receipt is dated one day before his departure for Africa to discover the source of the Niger, and is for supplies, including 50 gold rings, 28 spy glasses and 8 kaleidoscopes, presumably for trade or gifts

Note: Laing never returned from this expedition, and was probably murdered on the way back from Timbuctoo; no papers of the expedition survive.
