Lord Stewartby breaks down Churchill & Thomas’class 3c into two sub-groups, this as a provincial mint falls into 3ci by virtue of having a coarser bust, found at the temporary provincial mints, early in the issue. The other sub-group – 3cii has more rounded features and is only found at the ‘permanent’ mints of London, Canterbury and Bury St. Edmunds.
