— 1883 (27 Oct.) envelope addressed to the French Concession, Shanghai bearing U.S. 6c. franking tied by Kentucky despatch postmarks in blue and bearing, on the reverse, a good strike of "u.s. consulate general/shanghai china" double-ring c.d.s. in rose (7.12) plus San Francisco transit. Fine. At this time the U.S. Consulate was operating as a despatch post office for mail from the U.S.A. Quite scarce. Photo
