HH clear to large margins all round, applied at the lower left corner of envelope (contrary to Post Office instructions), dated 23 Oct. 1840, to Peckham, tied by red Maltese Cross cancellation, the envelope endorsed "Shooters Hill Bag", on reverse red Rochester and black Shooters Hill datestamps. Matched with a stampless envelope, ex the same correspondence, dated 5 Dec. 1840, with the same "Shooters Hill Bag" endorsement and marked "1" in red. Fine and a very rare pair of envelopes. A remarkable piece of Kent Postal History. Photo
