1936 (3 March), Tommy Rose's South Africa to Great Britain record flight, envelope to London with "capetown municipal air-post/wingfield" datestamp, on arrival franked 1934-36 1½d. with London machine cancellation, endorsed on the reverse "Carried by Tom Rose from Cape Town"; filing fold and mended tears, extremely rare. On this return flight Rose carried two letters addressed to the Lord Mayor of London which had been entrusted to him by the Mayors of Cape Town and Johannesburg, which he delivered personally. In addition he carried sixteen letters for personal friends and posted these on the day of his arrival in London. Photo
