1863 (9 July) envelope from The Northern Whig, Belfast bearing 1d. Stars tied by Belfast duplex and addressed to Thomas O'Hagan, M.P. House of Commons, and redirected on arrival to Hanover Square and bears a neat strike of the diminutive "R" in crowned circle (denoting no fee for redirection). Horizontal crease along the top of the envelope which runs through the adhesive, A scarce instructional mark. Photo

Thomas O'Hagan, 1st Baron O'Hagan (1812 -1885). He was returned to Parliament as Liberal Member for Tralee in 1863. In 1865 he was appointed a judge of common pleas, and in 1868 became Lord Chancellor of Ireland in William Gladstone's first administration
