Mannheim is (after Stuttgart and Karlsruhe) the third-largest city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is located in the southwestern part of Germany, at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar. Mannheim is unusual among German cities as its streets and avenues are laid out in a grid pattern, leading to its nickname "city of the squares".
