Major Arthur Northcroft Butler, born Poole, Dorset, 1894; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Royal Fusiliers, 26.1.1915; served during the Great War with the 14th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, attached 1/6th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 7.10.1915 (wounded); promoted Major, 1.2.1941, and served with the 3rd (Poole) Battalion, Dorset Home Guard.
Lieutenant Alan Cuthbert Gossling, born Bournemouth, May 1899; educated at Sherborne School, Dorset; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery, 5.8.1918, and served during the Great War in Salonika from 10.11.1918 (N.B. Medal Index Card confirms not entitled to Victory Medal); promoted Lieutenant, 1.2.1941, and served with the 4th (Sherborne) Battalion, Dorset Home Guard.
