144271 Petty Officer Second Class John Barrett (1872-1900), born Liverpool; joined Royal Navy as Boy Second Class, 1888; service included in H.M.S. Blanche, January 1891 - March 1894; advanced Petty Officer Second Class, 5.6.1900; Died '31.10.1900 on board S.S. Malta while on passage from Hong Kong to England from acute alcoholism followed by exhaustion and heart failure' (Service Papers refer).
