S.G. #F2 var. 1971 "2½" Surcharge on 6p Black and Green with red "National Savings" overprint, double surcharge, one inverted, this extremely rare error is the top left stamp in a top left corner block of four, pos. R. 1/1, the bottom right stamp also has the small "2" in the "1/2" omitted, o.g., post office fresh, n.h., very fine; the National Savings postal fiscal stamps were intended as savings stamps but retained their postal validity; the surcharge was provided with a handstamp locally in Tristan da Cunha under the supervision of the Adminstrator of the island, various minor error exist in applying the surcharge but this major error of a double surcharge with one inverted is the only known example; 2011 David Brandon certificate (Scott #132 var. see footnote).
