1838 (17 Oct.) entire from Calcutta "via Bombay & Egypt" to Bordeaux, rated "1/8" and showing a very fine strike of the oval-framed "Care of/Mr. Waghorn/Suez." cachet, framed "india", boxed "indies orien./par/alexandria" partly overstruck by boxed "paquebots/de la /mediterranée", Alexandria French P.O. c.d.s. and "purifie au lazaret/malte" handstamp and, on reverse, Calcutta Steam Letter datestamp and arrival c.d.s. (24.12); cover with some age marks and Waghorn cachet with small brown stain, otherwise fine. Rare. Photo
