1900 (16 Dec.) envelope from "Trooper W J Smyth French's Scouts Johannesburg" to Halifax, marked "On Active Service please deliver" and bearing V.R.I. 1d. (2) with c.d.s. and showing a good strike of the oval-framed "canadian contingent/south africa" datestamp (27.12) in violet, arrival c.d.s. (2.1) on reverse. A fine and unusual cover with the Contingent datestamp being the last recorded date of use. Photo
