1900 (26 Mar.) Allen Line crested envelope from Capt. R. Costigan of "E" Battery at Van Wyks Vlei to Montreal, bearing Cape 1d. with c.d.s. and additionally tied by "recovered from/wreck of mexican" cachet in red, and showing a superb strike of the oval-framed "canadian contingent/en route/south africa" datestamp (30.1) alongside, arrival c.d.s. (7.5) on reverse; sellotape stain at left though a very rare "held over" example of the En Route cachet and the only example recorded in combination with the Mexican wreck cachet. Photo

Note: "E" Battery were at Van Wyks Vlei for three days from 25-27 March as part of the Kenhardt Flying Column
