1900 (13 Mar.) unstamped Canadian Contingent "maple leaf" crested envelope from E.H. Strange of "G" Company at Poplar Grove Drift to New Brunswick, marked "On active service. No stamps procurable", showing F.P.O. c.d.s., a superb strike of the oval-framed "canadian contingent/south africa" datestamp in red and London Paid c.d.s. (2.4), St. John arrival c.d.s. (12.4) on reverse. A fine cover used on the first day of use of the oval cachet with "En Route" wording. Photo
