(x) Falkland Islands
1891 (14 Apr.) envelope to England, most unusually bearing only 1d. 1891 1d. red-brown bisected diagonally and cancelled by circular cork type with c.d.s. alongside, Paignton arrival c.d.s. (24.5) on reverse, two vertical creases well clear of the bisect. A most unusual bisect cover, not appearing to have any other stamps attached, possibly through a lack of knowledge by the sender of the correct rate, and untaxed. R.P.S. Certificate (1984). Note: The cover appears to have been addressed by William Hertford's daughter, Dora from the remote Hill Cover sheep station on West Falkland. Dora married Robert Blake who ran this part of West Falkland together with his partner Ernest Holmested
