Mersey Railway Company, certificate for consolidated ordinary stock, 19[03], no.1519, decorative title, scrollwork to left, black, very fine.

Incorporated in 1866 as the Mersey Pneumatic Railway Company, the name was changed in 1868. The line ran by tunnel under the Mersey River, to connect Liverpool with Birkenhead. In 1871 various extensions were added connecting the line with existing railways in the area and the national network.
