1857 Blued Paper
Cover
1857 (14 Oct.) envelope to Aberdeen, marked "viâ Marseilles", bearing 6d. purple-brown pair on blued paper (good margins) with 1857-59 1d. deep turquoise-blue and 2d. green (touched to good margins), each cancelled by neat strikes of the barred circle cancellations, the 1d. tied by London Paid transit c.d.s. in red (14.11), the reverse with Kandy Post Paid and Kandy Steamer Letter c.d.s. plus part Aberdeen arrival in green; a fragment of the flap and top left corner missing and some light toning at foot. A cover of great visual appeal. R.P.S. Certificate (2003) which states, "the stamps have been lifted and replaced". An unexpected rate which should be 6d. via Southampton or 9d. via Marseilles. Photo

Note: The certificate makes a further qualification, "a further 6d. adhesive is missing, probably from the top left corner." However, there is no evidence of any stamp missing and a further 6d. would be a very unusual rate
