Banque de la Guadeloupe, an unissued/proof 250 francs, ND (ca 1828), black on pale brown watermarked paper, allegorical maiden at left (sea), Mercury at right, ornate border around, cockerel top centre
(Pick unrecorded, Kolsky 181), in ICG holder number 40, very fine to extremely fine, watermarked '500 francs' and manuscript 'Pour Epreuve'. Kolsky states 'the engraver Barre received an order from the Banque de la Guadeloupe for designs for a potential issue of currency. This series never issued, pinholes, extremely rare. In addition the watermark reads '500 francs' and not as printed '250 francs'
