Russia, Alexander I, Visit to England 1814, gold medal by T Wyon, 28.27g, alexander russiarum imperator, laureate head right, signed t. wyon. s. on truncation, rev. ob. advent. m.d. catharinae . hosp. gratissimae, Britannia seated left, holding trident and olive branch, gaudens britannia mdcccxiv below, plain edge, 34mm. (BHM.845; Bramsen 1481; Diakov 383 R3; Smirnov -), minor bruising on obverse rim below bust, tiny marks and hairlines both sides, good very fine, extremely rare

Czar Alexander I visited England in June 1814 before progressing to the Congress of Vienna later that year. He and his sister, Catherine Pavlovna, Grand Duchess of Oldenburg, stayed at the Pulteney Hotel in Piccadilly. While in England Alexander was invested as a Knight of The Garter and recieved an Honorary Degree from Oxford University.

The medal by Thomas Wyon was produced in gold, silver, and bronze. Examples in silver and bronze are rare, examples in gold are extremely rare.
