Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Guadaloupe (Edward J. Hopkins, Volr.), collector's mark in reverse exergue, lacquered, extremely fine

Edward J. Hopkins served as a Volunteer in H.M.S. Statira for the combined naval and military operations commanded by Vice Admiral the Honourable Sir Alexander Cochrane and Lieutenant-General Sir George Beckwith which culminated in the capture of the French-held island of Guadaloupe, January-February 1810.

Lieutenant Edward Jervis Hopkins, R.N. joined the Royal Navy as Volunteer 1st Class, 1809; passed his examination in 1815, and was appointed Lieutenant, H.M.S. Tweed (Captain F. Hunn), on the Jamaica station, 1826; he was invalided, before being appointed to H.M.S. Shannon, 1828.
