Assam, Rudra Simha, octagonal Rupee, 11.08g, Sk. 1619, legends in four lines, Śri Śri Hara/ Gauri Padayu/gala Kamala/ Madhukara, rev. Śri Śrimat/ Saumaresvara/ Deva Rudra Simha/sya Śake 1619, lion chasing deer below (RB. F7.1; KM. 41), very fine, very rare
This very rare issue has a special legend describing the king as the Lord of Saumara. Saumara was the name of the easternmost division of Kamarupa, i.e. upper Assam. The motif of a lion chasing a deer is also not found on any other issue of this ruler. This may well have been the issue prepared for the king's coronation ceremony.
