This and similar coins in the name of Nara Narayana are tentatively attributed to the Khasi King of Khyriem. Khyriem was an independent kingdom, located to the west of the Jaintia Hills, about which little is known. The reason for attributing these coins to Khyriem is their similarity to the coins of Jaintiapur in both style and the inclusion of the six-pointed star, so typical of Jaintiapur coins. Moreover, the Koch chronicle recorded that, in around AD 1563, the Cooch Behar army defeated the king of Khyriem and ordered him to strike coins in the name of Nara Narayan.
