Departmentals
South Australia Departmentals overprints were applied to rouletted or perforated stamps. Perfection is almost unobtainable because so many of the stamps which were overprinted had been withdrawn from public sale because they were considered unsuitable to isue. Appaling centering was often remedied by severing the stamps with scissors as if they were imperforate.
"C.O." - Commissariat Office
— Perf 12, 2/- pink showing "o" touching full stop after "c", unused without gum, marginal watermark; some pressed creases which have slightly affected appearance, otherwise fine. Rare. RPSV Certificate (1979) states "it is the variety without stop after "O". These stamps were originally overprinted "C." although they do not seem to have been used by the Customs Department. We believe, however, that the "O" was subsequently added and the stamps were used by the Commissariat Office.". Photo
