Hong Kong Treaty Ports
Canton
1884 (3 Jan.) envelope to the U.S. Consul in Nagasaki bearing 5c. blue tied by a good strike of the "C1" obliterator in black with a superb strike of the type B c.d.s. alongside, the reverse with Hong Kong and U.S. Post Office "nagasaki/japan" (9.1) c.d.s.; the corner of the adhesive just overlaps the edge of the envelope, otherwise fine and attractive. This is the latest recorded "C1" cover, the only one addressed to Japan and the only such envelope bearing the 5c. franking. This is particularly rare and interesting with the U.S. Post Office arrival datestamp. Photo
