1848 (17 Dec.) a very long entire letter to Dr S.W. Ruschenberger, Fleet Surgeon, U.S.S. Plymouth, "pr Overland mail via Southampton", rated "1/-" in black ink (partly eaten into the cover), the reverse bearing good strikes of "lemuel goddard/london" oval in blue and large "forwarded by/hongkong/howle drinker & co" oval in red; the wrapper has been skillfully repaired.
