1892 (8 Sept.) envelope to Astor House, Shanghai bearing 3ca. perf.11½, uncancelled and showing a good strike of the rare "u.s.postal agency/shanghai, china" business use datestamp in blue (used on U.S. Postal Agency mail within China) alongside; the reverse with Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. and postman´s manuscript characters; a little roughly opened at side. A rare and important cover, there being only about half a dozen examples of this postmark, this is the earliest example recorded by us. Photo
