Large Dragons
An outstanding and truely magnificent collection in Frank Godden album, arranged by the different groups of printing. Each page is beautifully presented with skillful calligraphy indicating the notable features of each stamp whilst the introductory page for each of the twenty-three groups is with a hand-painted, coloured illustration. The collection includes group I with a fine examples of 2ca. grey-black and 16c. scarlet plus 4ca. and different 8ca. (4); a comprehensive selection of later printings which includes a fine example of the scarce 16ca. printing 5 in the lighter shade caused by under inking, 2ca. printing 10 with large margins and fine used with small belt buckle, 16ca. terracotta printing 17, 16ca. carmine-red of printing 18 which shows a double frame line at left, 1ca. blue shades of printing 23 (9) showing the different settings including raised "SH" and on wove paper (4), 2ca. grey-black on laid paper of printing 26b and 4ca. yellow on laid paper (3) of printing 27, 16ca. orange-vermilion of printing 31 showing "1" of "16" virtually omitted, 3ca. terracotta of printing 34 unused and used with 1866 (30 Jan.) c.d.s., an early date for this stamp, 6ca. terracotta of printing 36, 1ca. blue of printing 38 used, 2ca. black of printing 54 on laid paper, a previously unrecorded variety, 3ca. reddish brown printing 50 used and later printings. This very important collection must be viewed to fully appreciate its great appeal. This very specialised study offers an ideal and unique opportunity to acquire such a magnificent collection. The condition is, naturally, a little variable but the margins on most stamps, particularly the earlier printings, are generous. There are a few gaps which could be filled and some on the hinges are of an old type which are heavily coloured, however, these are easily removed (by careful wetting) without damaging either the stamp or the pages.
