Sarawak1918 Sir Charles Vyner BrookeImperforate Plate ProofsThe following five lots were discovered in 1998. It was first thought they were trials for other territories as there were no colour trials needed for this issue as Sarawak´s agents had written "the colours will follow that of the old issue". The answer may lie in a letter dated 13/9/21 from the Sarawak London Office stating "the following new values are also required..5, 6 and 30 cent...and I shall be glad to receive your suggested colourings....I hope you will let me have them in time to catch mail leaving on 22nd". As the value tablets were not available colour trials must have been prepared on the existing stamps. There were no examples in the archives as they were considered waste material when Sarawak came back stating they required the same colours as the Straits Settlements.1c. in grey-blue and carmine, a horizontal strip of three on gummed unwatermarked paper, a fraction soiled at left otherwise fine.
