1840 One Penny BlackPlate IICovers1840 (11 June) mourning letter with entire contents to "Battel" in Sussex, bearing LJ and LK (just cut into at right, otherwise both with good to large margins) and cancelled by two neat strikes of wtarey brown Maltese Cross with a part strike of "old rain" with mileage removed (now called Old Rayne), the flap, which opens for display, with Edinburgh (12.6) and London (13.6) transit c.d.s.; some folding creases an light soiling. A remarkable cover showing the Maltese Cross struck in error in the same colour as the straight-line postmark when red ink was the instructed colour to be used
