Great BritainPre-Stamp Essays1838-39 Mercantile CommitteeJames Chalmers: "Stamps" leaflet with text extolling the benefits of pre-paid stamps to be affixed to an envelope or wrapper, with examples of one penny, 2d., 4d. and 6d. designs. Archival tape affixed at left, otherwise fresh and fine. This is considered to be the most important of the Mercantile papers and is a superb exhibition item. It is thought that 1500 of these sheets were printed but that only five or six have survived.
