1857-C 5 Dollars. Choice AU. As is the case for just about all Charlotte Mint products, surviving specimens are scarce, with anything that approaches Mint State being rare. This low mintage issue holds true to form as the VF to XF range can often be obtained for a price, but with AU examples being prohibitive. This example remains refreshingly detailed with loads of original luster remaining in the fields. Close inspection shows the most significant abrasion sitting above the eagle´s head, but it isn´t bothersome, especially considering how these come. Additionally, striking flaws appear in the dentillation on the obverse. The faint hint of friction defines the grade.
