Great Britain Rowland Hill Letters 1864 (16 June) mourning envelope with letter from Rowland Hill to his brother Matthew in Bristol; age staining affecting both items. Photo Estimate £ 400-500 Note: Matthew Davenport Hill (born Birmignham on 6 August 1792) was an English lawyer and penologist. The brother of Sir Rowland Hill he was called to the bar in 1819, elected as a M. P. for Kingston-upon-Hull representing the Liberal Party in 1832. On the incorporation of Birmingham in 1839 he was chosen recorder and in 1851 he was appointed commissioner in bankruptcy for the Bristol district. He died at Stapleton, near Bristol on 7 June 1872
