Great Britain Postal History The following thirty-five lots comprise a recently discovered group of letters of complaint addressed to the Post Office. Unless otherwise specified they are the contents only 1847 (10 Feb.) entire letter from Lieutenant-Governor Sir Richard Bourke (1777-1855) to Colonel William Maberley, concerning postage charged on pre-paid letters to France, "the Post Office here has charged postage on three letters (two from Droitwich and one from Adare in Limerickshire) for which there is no doubt the Postage was paid at the respective offices; but owing to the stamp which marks the payment having been ineffectively applied and become nearly obliterated in transmission, the Officer of the Post has refused to recognise the letter as paid for in England"; endorsed with a detailed explanation; the entire bears part of an 1841 1d. and red datestamp on reverse; most interesting Estimate £ 100-150
