Great Britain Postal History The following thirty-five lots comprise a recently discovered group of letters of complaint addressed to the Post Office. Unless otherwise specified they are the contents only 1837 (8 Nov.) from Lieutenant General Sir Edward Barnes (1776-1838), Governor of Ceylon (1824-31), at Beech Hill Barnet, to Colonel William Maberley, concerning Postage rates from Ceylon, and asking for a refund, endorsed with Official comments including, "The franking privilege of Parliament is confined to letters sent or received" and "....If the Lr. contained only one enclosure, it should have been charged 8d. less & I shall readily make that amount to be returned to him on receiving his assurance that the Lr. was only double" Estimate £ 200-250
