Victoria Travelling Post Offices Sea Mails The "English Mail" Service This superseded the R.M.S.S. Hobson´s Bay Service in 1887 and was a T.P.O. on the train running from Melbourne to Adelaide 1902 (27 Aug.) Governor-General frank stamp envelope (rebacked internally) to England, showing oval-framed "victoria/Crown/official paid" h.s. and cancelled with "english mail t.p.o./victoria" duplex, 1894 1 1/2d. on 2d. card from Hamilton to Sweden, lightly cancelled with "46" duplex and with a superb strike of the "english mail t.p.o./victoria" duplex, 1909 (Feb.) card to England bearing 1d. and (Apr.) envelope "Via Italy" to Saxony bearing 5d., both cancelled with fine "english mail t.p.o./out" double-ring d.s. (this date stamp replacing the duplex in 1908 due to wear of the previous instrument). Also 1908 front to U.S.A., bearing 1/2d. and 1d. (8) cancelled with unusual "posted melbourne/down express" c.d.s. Estimate £ 80-100 Note: This service enabled letters for England and other countries in Europe, to leave Melbourne after the mailboat itself had left the port, and to catch the boat when it arrived at Adelaide
