Victoria Travelling Post Offices The Ballarat Line Using Numbers 1 and 2 T.P.O. No. 1 1872 (13 Mar.) envelope (flap missing and minor soiling) to Ballarat, bearing Laureated 6d. blue cancelled with fine "down train/mg1/victoria/t.p.o/1" duplex, large part arrival c.d.s. (13.3) on reverse; the earliest recorded date of use of this marking. Photo Estimate £ 200-250 Note: Down Train cancellations are outnumbered by Up Train types by about six to one. This is because the Down Train mail from Melbourne to the bigger country towns was largely placed on the train in sealed bags and therefore not individually cancelled on the T.P.O.
