War Tax Stamps Gold Coast Covers 1918 (9 May) envelope from Seccondee per "S.S. Nembe 9.5.18" to England, bearing 1d. (2, one the War Tax value) each neatly cancelled with double-ring d.s.; minor foxing though a most unusual item posted more than one month earlier than the 17 June official issue date. Photo Estimate £ 200-250 Note; This remarkable early use is recorded in "The Postal Services of the Gold Coast" by Michael Ensor. It is believed that this cover was sent by a postal official to his sister, though it is not thought that the stamps were available to the general public before 17 June
